Little Red Riding Hood Mail Carrier

Fun envelope from Eva.

The airmail washi tape over her eyes reflects a recent discussion Eva and I had about anonymity in mail art.

And Eva posted this one from Ceuta, in a Spanish enclave on the coast of Africa, so it has some really interesting stamps - the man juggling the eggs is Columbus... on his way to Columbus by mail.

    1. It is a very interesting design. I was also fascinated to find out that his last name is Colón in the Spanish speaking world, and in his native Italian Cristoforo Colombo. Nothing like a bit of Anglicization to mislead from the real facts!

    2. In Catalan the name is "Cristòfor Colom". And there is a discussion about the origins. In Spain, they want to believe that he wasn't Italian... :P

  2. While I thought Columbus is a Latinification, made me think of the neoclassistic period in which people liked ancient Roman (Latin) and Greek things.

Great envelope, Eva's creations always make me happy! And in this case curious about your recent discussion :-)

    1. In that case, he is Christophorus Columbus, and easy to see where the English version came from.

    2. In this period people still like ancient Latin and Greek things. Me, for instance :)

Thanks, Heleen! The discussion was so secret that it had to be done with the help of an (near) anonymous superhero mail carrier!
